Wisconsin will become the 20th state to outlaw texting when Governor Doyle signs the legislation that passed the Senate in October. The bill would take seven months, after the governor signs it, to take effect.

There were 2,455 motor vehicle accidents reported in Sheboygan County in 2008.
Nearly 6,000 people were killed, and over a half-million were injured in vehicle crashes in 2008, which were connected to distraction, including texting.

- U.S. Department of Transportation

In 2009, the City of Sheboygan had 1,832 reported accidents. Of those, 185 had injuries, some fatal.

Please help keep Sheboygan's roadways safe. Your life,  along with others, is in your hands.  Put the cell phone down and please, do not text while driving.

The fine for inattentive driving is  $101.40.

The starting fine for texting while driving is estimated to start at $400.00, for a first offense.
