Crime Prevention

Crime Prevention is one of the keys to improving the quality of life for the citizens of Sheboygan. Listed below are some of the programs that our department has to offer.

Security Checks. The Community Policing Unit is available to give a security check of your home or business. We will provide you with some information on how to improve the security of your home or business. These improvements are not installed by the Police Department, but we can either give you ideas that you can install or recommend a local company which can provide you with the proper equipment. If you are having problems with your business or residence, feel free to contact Officer Todd Priebe of the Community Policing Unit at 459-3341.

Financial Institution's Call Tree. The call tree is communication between all financial institution's in Sheboygan county by using the fax machine. A "Tree Alert" fax page is sent to all financial institution's to share information regarding lost check(s), stolen check(s), forged check(s), account fraud, closed account, or misc. information. The "Tree Alert" fax page is a formatted form that is simply filled out and sent to the financial institution that is on top of the calling tree. By using the formatted form, this would will eliminate the chance of misleading information being sent as it passes through the calling tree.

Fleetwatch. Fleetwatch enlists the help of citizens whose jobs take them out into the community. It is a county-wide effort involving law enforcement agencies throughout Sheboygan County, municipal employees and employees from the private sector. Each employee represents additional eyes and ears for law enforcement. Should an employee come in contact with a situation requiring law enforcement, they are encouraged to contact law enforcement either through their dispatcher of the use of a cellular phone. Employees are not asked to intervene in a situation. Employees are trained in how to give proper and complete information.

There are other programs also available to assist in crime prevention. They are; neighborhood watch, retailer's hotline, kids ID, and mock-robbery training.
